Films of the Czech underground and the new wave of the years 70.-80: Music movies and video clips

Director: different, CZ, 70 min., Czech

The selection of short films provides insight into the creation of independent film collectives and authors’ groups creating a parallel history of Czech cinematography.

The selection of video clips and music movies captures the symbiosis of an alternative film with an underground musical movement. First records of Plastic People´s concerts from Ján Ságl are considered more as expressive authentic concert records of concerts and things around it than just the video clips. The video clips became an inspiration in the 1980s (Čaroděj OZ a Precedens) and parody (Pablo de Sax and Plastic People). The works of Martin Čihák (Dunaj, Iva Bittová, YLO) illustrate Czech alternative scene of 1990s significantly influenced by western experimental films.

Curator of the program and introduction: Martin Blažíček.The films are part of the CAS FAMU research collection.

In cooperation with the Czech Center in Bratislava.
