Mečiar

Directed by Tereza Nvotová, SK, 89 min., Slovak

In 1989, when the totalitarian communist regime fell in Czechoslovakia, Tereza Nvotová, the director, was one year old. Leaders of the Velvet Revolution decided to hold interviews for the Minister of Interior. Vladimír Mečiar, at the time an unknown company lawyer from rural Slovakia, signed up. Vladimír Mečiar, after his success in the selection procedure, reaches the political top, from where he rules the country by disputable means. Against the backdrop of events like the division of Czecho-Slovakia, or the abduction of Slovak Republic’s president’s son, Tereza and her peers, re-live their childhood.
