Palo Fabuš: Computers thought

Technology and thought – lecture cycle on media philosophy

The idea that a computer would be capable of thought invoked skepticism at first, as computers were meant to function only as a deterministic mechanization of thought processes, without the randomness characteristic for human thought. We can see more and more than computers, especially in the form of digital environments where they come into contact with randomness (for example big data), create their own form of thought, irreducible to the human one. We can speculate that in contrast to today’s popular ideas, future artificial intelligence will be more boring, that we think, but also a lot stranger.

Palo Fabuš studied information science, media theory, and sociology. He is the head director of the magazine Umělec and has a long-term interest in the relationship between digital technology and the human burden.
