Film x art: Barbara

Mathie Amalric is less known as a director, but even more interesting. His latest film is the story of the famous singer Barbara – or more about the actor Brigitte, who is getting ready to play Barbara. Brigitte studies her voice, songs, imitates her gestures and slowly becomes her. The lives of both women overlap as a documentary overlaps with a live action movie, archive footage of Barbra, with recorded material. Amalric freed himself from a conventional biography and created a poetic film about art, life, and inspiration.
