directed by Šimon Šafránek, CZ, 80 min., Czech with English subtitles
King Skate is a film pulsing with life. History of skateboarding in Czechoslovakia is a story of a small everyday resistance towards the totalitarian regime. Šimon Šafránek shows us the seventies and eighties as we don’t get to see them in the official history records – a DYI skate brought young people the feeling of freedom, made them the “rockstars” of the streets and sometimes also the champions of this unconventional sport.
