Sometime in the nineties, somewhere in a Turkish seaside resort, a young divorced father Calum (Paul Mescal) spends the vacation together with his eleven-year-old daughter Sophia (Francesca Corio). The easy-going demeanor of the father, who does not spoil any fun and is amused by the fact that those around him consider him to be Sophie’s older brother, conceals a disturbing veil of melancholy. Charlotte Wells’ debut, which was one of the most pleasant surprises of last year’s Cannes festival, has the touch of a childhood memory and does not need opulent gestures to capture the indescribable, intense feelings of life.
