Love Lies Bleeding. Directed by Rose Glass (UK/USA), 2024, 119 min, en + cz subtitles

While historic changes are taking place in Europe in 1989, time seems to be standing still in the American backwater somewhere in New Mexico. Lou, the sensitive and reclusive operator of the local gym, falls head over heels for bodybuilder Jackie, who is heading to Las Vegas to win a championship. Passionate love and German steroids infuse the pair with a huge dose of energy. So much so that Lou decides to deal with her psychopathic father.

This could be a new grindhouse classic; in this world, love is bleeding but it’s not taking anything lying down.” (Peter Bradshaw/Guardian)

Free the Chickens. Réžia Matúš Vizár (CZ/SK), 2024, 15 min

Love lies bleeding is screened alongside the animated prequel Free the Chickens: a rescue mission to free chickens from a factory farm goes radically wrong and a group of four activists are forced to flee into the inhospitable wilderness. On the run, they experience a series of borderline situations and ethical dilemmas that lead to new insights, such as the fact that nature is not a safe place for animals.
