DEK Trio (Harnik / Kern / Vandermark)

The improvising line-up of DEK Trio goes far beyond the stylistic boundaries of free jazz. Elisabeth Harnik (piano) and Didi Kern (drums) from Austria and American saxophonist and clarinetist Ken Vandermark have been performing together for ten years. In their music we find a wide range of influences, drawn from sources based on Harnik’s work as a renowned classical composer, Kern’s profile on the European rock and experimental scene (Bulbul, Fuckhead, Shibuya Motors), and Vandermark’s many forays at home and abroad, touring, recording, and collaborating with dozens of world-renowned musicians as diverse as Getachew Mekuria and John Tilbury. The result of these influences and the group’s open musical curiosity is an extraordinary group aesthetic – inclusive, explosive and immediate.
