The production Terra Apathy draws on the story of the village of Horné Opatovce, which faced an ecological catastrophe after the construction of the aluminium plant in Žiar nad Hronom and was liquidated and wiped off the map in 1969 by a resolution of the government of the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic. Divadlo Pôtoň’s work follows the dramaturgical line of documentary theater, in which the creators deal with forgotten or taboo topics.

They conceived their latest work as an industrial eco-oratorio and a memento of contemporary civilisation, which cannot detach itself from increasing its comfort at the expense of the environment. The work is based on verified facts, but conveys them in a highly stylized visual and aural presentation. It experiments with the possibilities of the human voice and body, as well as the use of technical sound and visual sensations to model the audience’s attention and perception.

Supported using public funding by Slovak Arts Council and Bratislava City Foundation.
