Radical Empathy: Carry (SK/FR)

What can all be expressed through the body, and what does the realm of bodies encompass? Tomáš Danielis’ performative installation addresses current issues related to corporeality, particularly in the context of women and their position in society. ‘Carry’ – art gazes into the mirror and loses its glamour. The body on display, the body at work, the body as possession, the body as reflection, the body as image… Artists from the Radical Empathy group delve into the depths of the uncertain and complex position of women in contemporary society within its cultural (and historical) frameworks.

After the double bill, there will be a discussion with the creators of the performances. The discussion will begin approx. 10 minutes after the end of the performances and will be moderated by Dáša Čiripová.

Divadlo Štúdio tanca / Indira Chamalé Ortiz: Filomena (SK/GT)

The production explores – through the character of the young migrant Filomena – themes close to the author.

The performance is set in the context of Mexico during the Cristero War in 1935. The main character is the young and mysterious Filomena, who fled with her family from Veracruz to escape violence, settling in a remote village. Her family of musicians tries to find a new meaning of life on the farm.

Through Filomena’s perspective, the production reveals how the family deals with its history and copes with the new reality. Feelings of confusion, disagreement with surrounding violence, and the desire for freedom are the main motifs of the dance story about Filomena.

The story, told through dance and movement, follows Filomena’s journey to freedom and her own identity.

After the double bill, there will be a discussion with the creators of the performances. The discussion will begin approx. 10 minutes after the end of the performances and will be moderated by Dáša Čiripová.
