Like other central districts of Lisbon, the ancient Mouraria is facing a large influx of tourism: rising real estate prices, new investments gradually displace the original services and put pressure on the daily life of local people – not only the Portuguese, but also people from over 50 nationalities, originating mainly from Africa, Asia, and South America. Tourism is an opportunity for economic development, but also threatens Mouraria. The author of the document is Fabio Petronille.
