MUSEUM2: Passengers of Orsay + Francofonia

Sunday / 7.30pm & 8.30pm / cinema / €3 one film/€4 both

Passengers of Orsay (Passagers d’Orsay) Sandra Kogut / FR 2003 / 52 minutes / French with English subtitles “’Can I do a portrait of you with your favourite work of art?’ This is the question that I put to people, chosen more or less randomly, in the galleries of the Musée d’Orsay in Paris. This is how our walks began, some of them kilometres long, in search of these images. This is how the film begins. Where will they lead us? Where are these works leading them?”

Francofonia (Le Louvre sous l’Occupation) Alexander Sokurov / FR/DE/NL 2015 / 88 minutes / French, English, German & Russian with Czech subtitles Sokurov’s historical essay combines an unconventional stroll around the Louvre through which we are being led by Napoleon & Marianne – allegorical representatives of the French Republic – with historical footage and contemporary interviews regarding the museum during the Nazi occupation. A meditation on the meaning and timelessness of art.
