“I Do Not Care If We Go Down in History as Barbarians”

Radu Jude once again opens the unpleasant topics of history that most would like to forget. The film follows a story of a young artist and activist Mariana and her attempts to create a reenactment of a forgotten massacre committed by the Romanian army in 1941. She confronts the unwillingness of the actors and administration that undermines her efforts. Jude works with uncompromising form of storytelling – using long dialogues thanks to which his film becomes an arendtian disquisition about the banality of evil.
