Freedom of movement

People aim for Europe because of different reasons. Some are escaping war or persecutions, long term poverty or deteriorating environmental conditions. They hope that Europe could offer them a safer and brighter future. Unfortunately safer ways to get to Europe haven’t been provided for refugees to this day. Many people are made to risk a dangerous journey through the Mediterranean sea.

The artist Adam Engler decided to translate the list of names and causes of deaths of 33 305 people who had died while trying to flee to Europe since 1993 and bring their names into the public space via art installation.
