Kino inak A4 x DAFilms: Housing rights: Implantación / The Divide / See Prague (online until 28.2.)

entry: 1,50€-2,50€

In the February online program of Kino inak A4, which was created with the kind support of the DAFilms portal, we focus on the housing crisis. During the ongoing pandemic, the problem of homelessness and in/accessible housing has become more pressing. While the population is ordered to hide at home / isolate, some have not had this option for months or years. Prices of flats and their rents are constantly rising.

The films we have selected for the February series address the topic of housing inaccessibility, forced evictions and the rise of housing prices in various parts of the world from different perspectives. Is housing a right, a privilege or a struggle? How can we prevent homelessness?

“Everyone needs and deserves to live. But our homes are transformed into commodities, commodified, further accentuating the inequalities between those who inhabit cities. Profit is much more important today than social needs. The poor are forced to pay more for worse and worse housing. Urban communities are at risk of eviction and gentrification violence, and the benefits of good housing are available only to those who can afford them,” writes David Madden and Peter Marcus in In Defense of Housing.

During February, we will offer you a series of six films -> the first three of them will be available until February 14, the second three will be presented in the second half of the month. The series will be concluded by an online discussion with experts on housing.

* The online program of Kino inak A4 was created in cooperation with the DAFilms portal. The programmers of Kino Inak A4 have prepared a thematic series of six films, which you can watch through the DAFilms platform.

Selected films:
🏠 Implantación [Implantación / r. Fermín Eloy Acosta, Sol Bolloqui, Lucía Salas / 2018 / Argentina / Spanish with English subtitles]
Implantación traces the past and present of the Villa Lugano housing estate in Buenos Aires, built between 1970 and 1973 by the Municipal Housing Commission, which was the largest housing construction in Buenos Aires at the time. The images of contemporary life in it are intertwined with archival drawings of the ideas of the use of common areas of apartment complexes.

🏠 The Divide [La grieta / Irene Yagüe Herrero, Alberto García Ortiz / 2018 / Spain, Spanish with English subtitles]
The theme of The Divide is a real event in 2013, when local governments in Madrid sold 4,000 apartments for low-income families to an American investor. The film follows their protests at the housing fair, where investors in suits celebrate the construction of modern apartment complexes and desperate efforts to resist forced evictions. “We must win our rights with solidarity and determination,” said one of the residents of the flats they wanted to move out at the meeting.
