The “World According to Gabriel” transgender culture festival was spurred to existence by the tragic story of Gabriel Švábenský, who committed suicide on 5 March 2018. Gabriel was a transgender person, born as a girl, and despite the effort and support of all his nearest who loved him, he chose to end his life. The festival aims to raise awareness about the Slovak trans community and engender public discourse with a program of debates, theatre performances, readings, concerts, film screenings and exhibitions. It aspires to draw attention to the critical situation of transgender people and to introduce their lives and problems to a majority audience.
