Co-authors Tereza Krčálová (CZ) and Romana Štorková Maliti (SK), both part of the Zero Position (Nulová pozice) association, will present the results of their artistic research project on the topic of division of Czechoslovakia. At its beginning, there was not only a need to commemorate the 30th anniversary, but above all an effort for contemporary reflection on the event also known as the “velvet divorce”.

What is hidden behind this euphemistic title? During the last year, we talked to residents of Slovakia and the Czech Republic, as well as Slovaks living abroad, with people from different age and social groups, to find out how they remember the partition, what they thought about it then and what they think of it today.

Was the then fear of the fratricidal war justified? Why isn’t it widely known that there was a person who set themselves on fire in a protest against the partition? Would Slovaks and Czechs be different today if they lived in a common state? Do we need each other, or is the proclaimed mutuality just a phrase? An open dramatic text was created on the basis of documentary material – transcripts of interviews, research of the media environment and archival materials. Excerpts from it will be read by SkRAT Theater actors Ľubo Burgr and Zdena Kvaskova.
