Euripides – The Women of Troy. When, if not today? With whom, if not with Ukrainian women?

Stories of the epic heroes of the Troy war were carved into our collective memory while the stories of the Trojan women are forgotten. What ends when a war ends? And what begins? And what is it that will never end? Peace will not necessarily bring calmness, calmness will not necessarily consolation. Hekaba lost 50 children, but what if she loses the last one, too? What will happen then? Revenge tastes like the sweetest borsch.

The characters of the Trojan women without men are played by Ukrainian actresses – as it turns out that they are exceptionally gifted for portraying them. The modern retelling of the classical tragedy of the Trojan women and Hekaba directed by Jakub Čermák with Ukrainian artists who currently have asylum in the Czech republic doesn’t specifically focus on the ongoing conflict, but concentrates on victims of wars in general.

The play is performed in Ukrainian language with Czech subtitles.
