The international co-production project of Divadlo Pôtoň and the Horácké divadlo Jihlava focuses attention on the subculture of jazz and swing devotees that stood in opposition to the totalitarian Nazi regime during the Second World War. The authors worked with fragments of two authentic stories from the Second World War. The first is the story of the dancer, choreographer and designer Nina Jirsíková, who was perhaps the only Czech person deported to Ravensbrück concentration camp for her dancing in the ballet production The Tale of a Dance. The second story is that of Anna Goldsteiner, from the small town of Pulkau in Lower Austria, who was beheaded for allowing local youths – devotees of jazz and swing – to meet in her apartment. Swing Heil! is a fusion of drama, dance, object and physical theater.
