Fire! (SWE) and Bratislava Improvisers Orchestra

First class Nordic power trio Fire! consisting of Mats Gustafsson (saxophones), Johan Berthling (bass guitar) and Andreas Werliin (drums) has earned a special place in the music world. Gustafsson’s stormtrooper Gustafsson has already performes in Slovakia with various projects, but Fire! will have its Slovak premiere here. The unrestrained, but also dark and intensely burning music, whether we choose to call it free jazz, psychedelic rock or post-rock, noise or impro, has won an enthusiastic audience in Europe, the USA, Canada, Brazil and Japan. The members of the trio have collaborated with figures of the experimental scene such as Jim O ́Rourke, Oren Ambarchi, or Stephen O ́Malley, as well as Sonic Youth. The recent album Testament was recorded by sought-after producer Steve Albini and brings the project back from an expanded version of Fire! Orchestra back to the raw, stripped-down basics – just a trio with bass and drums.

Plus, as always, a different and always surprising performance by the cast of A4’s variable resident ensemble: the Bratislava Improvisation Orchestra. The ensemble is a loose group of musicians playing both acoustic and electronic instruments, dedicated to freely improvised music of various forms.
