The A4 is known not only for connecting various genres under one roof but also for bringing a colorful and exciting program to different age groups. Creative workshops for kids like The Famous Art Guide’s Manual led by the painter Monika Pascoe Mikyšková is a popular hands-on format dedicated to young visitors who are curious about visual art. In April A4 introduces a new childrens’ workshop dedicated to music and sounds called And Then The Silence Smiled organized and lead by Czech visual artist and musician Kateřina Zochová.
Kateřina Zochová works with sound experimentation, makes musical instruments and music composing. In her workshops the artist will analyze music and sounds in a conceptual way and share her curiosity and enthusiasm about sounds and non-sounds with kids from 11 to 14 years old. Together they will discover the world of noises, tones, sounds, music and, of course, silence, that is an inseparable part of everything we hear.
The kids are invited to discover silence and make friends with it – though not necessary while being quiet (fortunately!). The workshop about tones and sounds will make the young visitors think critically about what would happen if there was no silence and if the sounds really need it.
What would it be like, if we were the sounds or we were the music? How would the silence be? Would we be friends? How would the silence behave? What color would it be? Would it be huge or tiny? Would it have any or many questions? Could we smell it? Touch it?
The young workshop visitors will have a chance to discover the genre of sound collage, use different musical and non-musical instrumentx and create sound portraits in groups or in pairs. The workshop packed with experiences and hearing sensations is divided into two parts while the first edition will happen on the 28th of April.
Experimental, new, challenging and different music is a strong and inseparable part of the program in A4 and that’s also why we are excited to introduce this kind of creativity and perception to also our younger audience through a lively and hands-on workshop. Enter the captivating world of contemporary and unconventional music and sounds in the workshop And Then The Silence Smiled with Kateřina Zochová soon!
Registration is open via workshop@a4.sk.
The second part of the workshop will be held on May 26th.
The cooperation with Kateřina Zochová and her workshop were made possible also through the project Re-Imagine Europe, which is successfully connecting various European cultural centers and making a valuable network of artists, institutions and organisations throughout our continent. A4 is a part of the international cooperative project REI since october 2017 and is happy to be sharing a network initiated by Sonic Acts (NL) and coordinated by Paradiso (NL) with organizations such as Elevate Festival (AT), Lighthouse (UK), Ina GRM, Student Center Zagreb / Izlog Festival Landmark / Bergen Kunsthall (NO), SPEKTRUM (DE) and Ràdio Web MACBA (ES).
