Slovak Underground

The evening will commence with screening of two episodes from the documentary series Underground Phenomenon (Fenomen Underground) produced by Ceska televize (Czech public television broadcaster) and directed by Bretislav Rychlik in 2012, each 52 minutes long. Focus of both episodes is the Slovak underground scene during Communist rule. In Lighting over Tatras (Nad Tatrou sa blyska) episode creators explore how it differed from the Czech scene and its relationship to the political establishment as well as its self-definition as ‘authentic way of life experiment’. While Wild East (Divoky vychod) episode tells us a story of underground in and around Eastern Slovakia city of Kosice, especially life and work of dissident, musician, artist, philosopher and later also politician Marcel Stryko.

A performance by rarely seen underground music group The Nace II from Kosice will complete the evening.
