JUNE IN A4

Dear visitors and friends, welcome to the last month of this season in A4! This school year ended in the blink of an eye, which in A4 applies also to those who no longer go to school. This month’s program will set you off for summer in a great mood and make sure that you will be right back in September. Come to start the party on our terrace, our cinema or the concert hall or any other cool corner of the June – vibed A4.

Girls from the EVS program (European Voluntary Service), that had been tirelessly taking part in the A4 event and zine production this whole season are finishing their internships in June. As a farewell they organize the traditional Whatevs party at the A4 terrace with a BBQ. Along with the grilling and exchanging volunteering stories, a workshop “Gender Equality” will take place. Not only the terrace opening is the fresh news of June’s A4 – you can also enjoy a change of the A4 exhibition, this month with posters by the graphic designer Lucia Šimková.

Pictureplane (US), Hallogenerator (SK), A4 DJs & more 
The same party opens the summer and ends this year’s season. As a farewell with the year 2017/2018 we are gonna celebrate the holidays at the terrace party with food and music until the early morning. American producer Picturepland and a project – band Hallogenerator and our local A4 DJ intergalactic duo A&T and DJ Hamborgarafabrikkan a.k.a. Slávo will accompany the evening. Everybody is gonna be here! Come and bring some kids – we will take care of them too!

Right at the start of this month we prepared an exceptionally inspiring and Bratislava suiting lecture by the architect, designer and researcher Mirian Calvo of the Glasgow School of Art. We all know that the problem of public space is in especially burning and acute in Bratislava due to private developers pushing their agendas about occupying the public space further instead of architects and urban designers, are many external developers influencing it face alongside the architects and urban designers. Mirian Calvo is interested in local communities and ways they need to use the space and therefor she’ll introduce a project of participation of the “indigenous people” of a particular part of the city on the ways the space works, looks and lives.

A4’s hosted educational programs continue even with the summer and the heat approaching! Lecture from the series Technology and thinking by Palo Fabuš will this time examine problems of subjectivity and objectivity in online space.
Thursday 21.6. / 19.00 

Peter Dolník will in the next part of his series Futurit walk and drive around Los Angeles where also the beautiful weather has an impact on the quality of the local music scene. Whether it’s L.A. hip-hop or rock music with a long tradition – everybody had probably already heart and listened to something that was produced or composed right in the heart of the city of angels. The local beat scene and adventurous music of Brainfeeder or Flylo and Thundercat will not be snubbed.

Hearing the unknown is already a classical part of the series Teasing. In its June’s edition Acidmilk will introduce himself and his beloved music. Acidmilk is a part of the project Amen Tma and doom metal ensemble 0N0. He also loves Indonesian music and has an exceptionall overview of the experimental music of the Central and Eastern Europe thanks to being a vital part of the collective LOM.

We are here to make the fans of rhythmical deconstruction excited! British electronic musician Rian Treanor and Indian composer Nakul Krishnamurthy are bringing a combination of Indian music and algorithmic sequencing to A4 with the aim of creating a new pulsing universe here, as they usually do. We will also welcome 16 colors – a solo project by Peter Kudlička, who will explore rhythmic digitacts and modulars which will not let you stay sitting in your chair.

To the mix of electronic programs we hid an innovative folk compositions and song writing by the Norwegian Listen To Girl (formerly known as Girl). A guitar and two voices of Ina Sagusten and Christian Winther will remind you of music by Beck or Gal Costa with a pleasant and fresh northern twist. Before them the new project Mikloško Šiesty will play the ukulele, guitar and sing about the everyday and urban life.

A4 will once again welcome the already legendary and critically acclaimed play by Sláva Daubnerová about extremism, aversion and malice. Solo Lamentoso draws inspiration from the medialy widely talked about story of the singing house. Experimental theatre play writer and performer Sláva is in her exceptional monodrama asking the questions about the borders of one person’s freedom.

Brace yourself, there will be opera in A4! Of course you shouldn’t expect anything conventional. Miroslav Tóth is the composer of this spectacular thirteen act reenactment of the life on the planet 134330. The sci-fi project about the dystopian occupation of the new space from the researcher’s Samuel point of view deals with the unsolvable existential problems of an opera creature on a strange planet. 

CINEMA
Kino-inak will be colorful again. The modern classic about the newly elected pope in Italian production We Have A Pope will provide an absurdist look into the behind the scenes of Vatican – instead of conspirators, we get a glimpse of human experience behind the walls of the system full of funny dialogue. The French film by Romain Goupil Half A Life teleports us right in the middle of the student revolutionary movement in Paris and is also a psychological portrait of the rebel youth and a tragic suicide and disillusion.

New Zealand in the new documentary essay about three heroes will provide a visual meditation through three different ways of dealing with trauma of the western society in the film by Adam Luxton On an Unknown Beach. Nothing Like Before directed by Lukáš Kokeša and Klára Tasovská remind us the fresh contemporary Czech documentary wave. Following four very different protagonists living in a border town realizing life will be confusing after graduating high school.
Croatian series Sleeping concrete appreciates the monumental and abandoned architecture on the coast of Adriatic sea. It comments on the relation of socialism and capitalism through the beauty and massiveness of the modernist buildings that froze in time. In the film Occupation 1968 five directors of five countries looked back on this intense time of change with five short film. When The War Comes is a story of Peter, who becomes a member of militant group Slovak recruits whose ambitions collected during the harsh drill will become unbearable.
